As of October 11, 2022, the borders to Japan opened up and tourists are able to come in once again. The visa requirement has loosened although the volume of flights inbound may still take a bit longer to come back to pre COVID levels.
Another reason for the extra motivation to visit Japan is the weak yen. The yen has been at its weakest point since 1990.
